What happens if I don't meet the dress code?
You will be denied entry. There are no coverings provided at the entrance. Vendors near St. Peter's Square sell scarves and shawls, but it's best to come prepared. Even in hot summer weather, the dress code is strictly enforced.
Can I bring a water bottle inside?
Yes, you can bring a sealed water bottle through security. However, eating and drinking inside the basilica is not permitted. There are fountains in St. Peter's Square where you can refill your bottle before or after your visit.
Are selfie sticks allowed?
Selfie sticks are generally not permitted inside the basilica. They may be confiscated at the security checkpoint. Standard handheld photography with phones and cameras is allowed, just without flash or tripods.
Can I attend Mass as a tourist?
Yes, Masses are open to everyone regardless of faith. However, during Mass certain areas of the basilica are reserved for worshippers, and tourist access may be restricted. Mass schedules are posted at the entrance and on the Vatican website.
